Our Story

Baking with heart since 2011.

01

A coffee shop on Challoner Street.

In 2011, The Coffee Kitchen opened its doors. We started with a simple idea: serve great speciality coffee alongside real bread and homemade cakes in a warm, welcoming space.

We quickly became a favourite among locals and visitors to the Lake District — a little corner of Cockermouth where you could slow down and savour something freshly baked.

02

The bakery opens.

By 2015, demand for our bread had grown so much that we opened a dedicated bakery — expanding our range and beginning wholesale to local shops and restaurants across Cumbria.

In 2019, we focused entirely on baking. We closed the original cafe to concentrate on the bakery, while still serving coffee, cakes, and light lunches from Challoner Street.

What We Believe

Our philosophy.

I

No Additives

Only flour, water, salt, and time. No preservatives, no improvers, no shortcuts.

II

Slow Fermentation

Good bread takes time. Long, slow fermentation for real flavour and better texture.

III

Community

We supply local businesses and teach bread making to our neighbours.
